Who Am I?
I’m Brenda, in my 30-year professional career, first as an attorney and then as a psychologist, I’ve had the
opportunity to help a wide variety of individuals solve a wide range of problems. I come to Miracles Counseling
Center with a real-world perspective as to the challenges of life and how they directly affect a person’s mental
wellbeing.
I’m most passionate about helping individuals, especially teens and adults, navigate and heal from the effects of
trauma. I specialize in working with high functioning depression. “High-functioning depression” is a term describing
people who experience depressive symptoms but outwardly appear successful. They manage daily responsibilities,
work, and social obligations, but internally they battle persistent low moods, fatigue, and a diminished sense of
joy. The good news is that High-functioning depression is highly treatable.
I love working with:
> People who feel stuck in their anxiety and/or depression
> Individuals who feel like their anger is getting in the way of healthy, happy relationships
> People who are way too hard on themselves and want to increase their self-esteem, self-worth, and
confidence
How I Help:
My goal is to work together as a team to ensure that therapy fits your needs, building on your expertise of your life.
Because of my forensic and legal background, I am particularly adept at helping clients look at the “big picture;” of
their lives without judgment. I provide a grounded, professional environment where we can work through the
symptoms of anxiety and/or depression and start building a foundation of healthy, sustainable coping skills.
What it’s like in a session with me:
My approach is directive, solution-oriented, and collaborative. I draw from evidence-based theoretical orientations
such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Therapy (DBT) to help you reach your goals for success.
Moreover, I will hold you accountable along the way, which can be challenging to do alone.
I offer a high level of focus and flexibility to my clients. We’ll work together to identify the thoughts, feelings, and
behaviors that are making you feel stuck and practice new ways of responding to stressful events. You can expect a
session that feels structured yet fluid. I offer virtual sessions for accessibility and flexibility. Reaching out can feel like
the hardest step but it’s also the first step toward feeling better. If you’re ready, I would be honored to support you.
More about me:
When I’m not working, my life revolves around my twin sons, Max and Mason, who are the loves of my life. Tackling
the parenting journey alone as a Single Mother by Choice (SMC) is not for the faint of heart but it was the best
decision I’ve ever made. To keep me sane and grounded, I enjoy working out at the gym, taking yoga classes, and
walking our golden retriever, Biscuit.
