Anxiety is a normal emotion, but for some it can take on a life of its own and can become a something that interrupts your happiness. This is why understanding the signs of anxiety in your life is important. Anxiety is feeling that is a biological reaction—the body’s way of telling us something isn’t right. But if anxiety becomes overwhelming and persistent, or if it interferes with regular daily activities, or even makes them impossible, it may be an anxiety disorder. The signs of anxiety can present as a feeling of nausea, or an impending sense of doom. Many times it presents as persistent and intrusive worries about many aspects of your life. Below, we want to give you an even further indepth understanding of the ways anxiety may show up for you. Those suffering from anxiety disorders are not alone! It is one of the most common mental health struggles in the world.
Many signs of anxiety can present in someone’s life, most of which are normal! We know that anxiety is one of the most typical emotions humans experience. Think about typical nerves you get when preparing to interview for a job, or fearing something that actually is dangerous. We all do and should experience emotions, but anxiety that becomes overwhelming and pervasive in our lives is something that should be carefully considered for treatment.
Here are the 7 signs of an anxiety disorder which may indicate that your anxiety is becoming a clinical issue:
- You have constant worry – without cause – that interrupts daily life. These worries can range from small to major concerns in your life.
- Preoccupied and pervasive worries about all sorts of things including tests, bills, relationships, etc. These are worries that keep coming up and you cannot let go.
- Avoiding social gatherings out of fear of feeling uncomfortable or embarrassed. The concerns can be about how others see you, or feeling unsure of how you will be able to manage interactions with others. Your social life has become exceptionally restricted.
- Feelings of awkwardness in most or all social situations. You have thoughts that you don’t fit in anywhere, or with anyone.
- Panic attacks without cause and perpetual fear of having another one. These occur suddenly and can catch you off guard.
- Escalating anixety or near panic feelings before a big moment, or a specific situation that repeatedly causes intense sense of fear.
- Irrational / unexplainable fear of something that poses no danger but you cannot let that fear go.
- Know that anxiety can appear differently in children, and that this can appear as intense irritation and ager in addition to the typical anxious thinking we may more easily notice.
