My office setting is warm and inviting, and your comfort and privacy is of primary importance to me. I offer flexible appointment times, and evening appointments. I believe in a holistic approach to treatment, and, that the treatment process begins with a thorough assessment, wherein, all aspects of the individual are considered; body, mind, social environment, and spirituality. I am an active therapist and treatment goals are client driven. I adapt my treatment approach to the individual needs and comfort level. I am motivated in helping others create a life that is authentic, meaningful, and fulfilling.

I believe in the power of making choices that lead to life affirming outcomes and in the ability of individuals to accomplish their goals. I also believe that individuals sometimes require the assistance of counseling in order to help them begin making changes to achieve personal growth and well-being. I employ a systemic approach, which is strength based and client centered. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish and International Studies and a Master’s Degree in Counseling from George Fox University in Portland, Oregon. I am fully licensed clinical therapist with extensive experience working in the inpatient and outpatient setting. I received my Master’s degree from Florida State University. I specialize working with those struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, drug addiction, poor self-image, identify issues, and self-injurious behaviors. I enjoy working with children, adolescents, adults, and families to provide support, education, and objectivity. I believe you are the expert in your own life; however it can be beneficial to talk with someone who can listen from a non-judgmental stance, provide empathy and understanding, while also offering a unique perspective to help you gain insight into your thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and beliefs. Many times, the journey of counseling is initiated by a traumatic experience, at other times it can be a series of smaller trials and tribulations, either way, it can become a time of confusion and hopelessness. I want to help you feel like you are not in your battle alone, while also empowering you to have confidence in yourself. During this time, when one’s life resources have been exhausted, it becomes time to gather more tools to cope with the surprises and challenges life throws at us. We are all doing the best we can to navigate through this journey of life. We do what works for us at that time and there is no shame in that. Nevertheless, we can become aware of the negative consequences these coping strategies have produced and we yearn to learn new coping skills to manage through the stress, sadness, anger, and anxiety we are burdened with. My goal is to help identify more effective strategies to cope with these distressing emotions. I am here to be your advocate, your confidant, your cheerleader, your coach, your teammate, and your safe place. I am here for you.

Greetings! My name is Kimberly Whalen. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Argosy University and Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pfeiffer University of Graduate Studies. I provide therapy sessions for individuals, couples, and family systems. I work with diverse populations living with the following: Bipolar, clinical depression, anxiety, ADHD, addiction, P.T.S.D., grief, infidelity, eating disorders, parent-child and marital distress, life transitions, and day-to-day stressors.
My therapy approach is taken from an attachment perspective. I believe humans are wired to feel connected and benefit from healthy relationships. Without this connectedness, we may experience isolation or loneliness. I provide a safe, accepting space for my clients and utilize positive Existential and ACT Therapy Models supporting self-awareness, meaningful relationships, and values of life. Together, we will identify personal strengths creating affirmations of self-worth. We can explore intergenerational behavioral patterns and self-defense mechanisms that may influence current relationships. Most importantly, we will celebrate the freedom of empowerment, healing, and connectedness, which lead to personal growth. It would be a privilege to learn, collaborate, and grow with you. Join me at Miracles Counseling Centers, Inc. (704) 664-1009, where we can walk this path of personal growth together.
“Human existence begins and ends with a desire for connectedness. Connectedness forms identity, preserves aspiration, constructs meaning, and models generativity.” ~Kimberly Whalen
